Los Angeles bred "Septa Coda" are a progressive post-hardcore band keen on combining the dual-vocalist tradition popularized by acts like Alexisonfire, Taking Back Sunday, and Dance Gavin Dance with technical instrumentals that are closer in alignment to progressive metal acts like The Contortionist or Animals As Leaders. There's a catch though: the band replaces the cliche "harsh" vocal sound with contemporary rap flows, while still maintaining it's counterpart of soulful and belty cleans that have come to be expected within the genre.
According to the bands Spotify bio, brothers Malachi Jaymes (Guitarist) & Levi Jaymes (Singer) started the project initially as a demo tape which featured vocals from AZ based rapper Kill Stacy. The demos received good enough feedback for the brothers to decide to turn the project into a full band, which led to the inclusion of bassist Jack Wendt and eventually rapper Jean Charles. Still without a drummer at this time though, the band decided to record a full-length album anyway, which included all of the songs form their demo but now more fully realized, and this time featuring live bass and drums.
Septa Coda's full length debut "Septuagint" released in May of this year. An 11 track hard-hitting LP featuring all the current members of the band minus their current drummer, Sam Aseh, who joined the band shortly after it's release. The drummer credited on the album, Patch Mahoney, only served as a session drummer for the record. That must be why only 4 members of the band are featured on the album's cover art, which features a photo of the band taken by Christina Bryson (averagecowgirl). Now you know!
